It’s been said that a reader lives a thousand lives. The books we hold most dear are a way for us to trace our paths and map time.
Which book was the one that lit up your childhood? What book flipped you inside out in your twenties? Is there a book that carved out how you do your work? Has changed how you view your most important relationships? These questions and more are at the root of a new First Light conversation series starting on Thursday, March 7. We’re calling it A READING LIFE.
On Thursday, March 7th, at 6pm, First Light is lucky to welcome actor-musician Carrie Brownstein and designer-hotelier Liz Lambert, as they share and discuss their reading lives. Good stories, some laughs, and perhaps a few book recs that’ll swerve your own path in the best kind of way. This will be a ticketed event with limited inside space, with free attendance available in our courtyard. Reserved seat tickets, in addition to the reserved seat, include a drink from our cafe. All tickets include your choice of one of the books from Carrie and Liz’s conversation.
More about Carrie and Liz:
Carrie Brownstein is an actor, musician, comedian, and director. She’s well regarded for her work on television series Transparent and the Peabody Award-winning Portlandia, and as dual lead of the indie rock band Sleater Kinney. She’s the author of the memoir Hunger Makes Me a Modern Girl, published in 2015 by Riverhead Books.
Liz Lambert’s hotel design and entrepreneur bona fides are well documented, and deservedly so, from the iconic Hotel San Jose and Hotel Saint Cecilia, to El Cosmico and Hotel Saint Vincent. Native West Texan, poetry major at UT, and partner at MML Hospitality, Liz’s indelible placemaking touch is defined by the constellation of inputs that stir her ongoing work: music, art, landscapes, craft, and literature.
